The Challenge: 

Our client came to us with a dream: to transform their backyard into a true outdoor oasis. They envisioned a beautiful, two-story outdoor structure that could seamlessly host family and friends, complete with a full-service bar, grill, and a show-stopping fire pit patio. The core challenge was to design this complex architectural expansion in a way that thoughtfully intervened with the home's original architecture, creating a new space that felt both integrated and iconic.

The FADE Approach: 

This project was a journey in precision and craft. As Architects, we designed an expansive, two-level deck structure that created a new, open-air living room for the home. The true heart of the project, however, was the Fabrication of the custom outdoor kitchen and fire pit. This functional art piece was a true test of our skills, requiring a team of specialists to bring it to life. We had to consider everything—how smoke and heat work, the spatial limitations, the hardware and finishing constraints, the complex angular connections of the perforated sheets, and keeping the weight of each component manageable. Through this process, we successfully developed a double-stacked fire pit, a double-wide smoker/grill, and a wet bar, all perfectly integrated within the architectural expansion.

The Outcome: 

The result is a stunning outdoor oasis that has completely transformed the way our client lives in their home. The new two-story structure provides an incredible space for entertaining, while the custom fire pit, grill, and bar stand as its spectacular centerpiece—a functional piece of art. It is a powerful testament to our design-build process, where thoughtful architecture is realized through a deep, hands-on engagement with the craft of fabrication, ultimately delivering a space that is not only beautiful but a true joy to experience.
