PATTERNS & PATINAS...Forging a New Heart for Bryce Resort
The Challenge:
As longtime visitors to Bryce Resort, we knew its restaurant had the potential to be the true heart of the mountain. The existing space, however, was dated and needed new life. The challenge was to completely redesign and renovate the restaurant, creating a vibrant, year-round destination with an open layout, a large bar, and great lighting that would serve as a perfect spot for gathering in the Shenandoah Valley.
The FADE Approach:
This project was a personal journey, and our FADE process was central to its transformation. The Architectural vision was to open up the floor plan and make a spectacular new bar the centerpiece, all while embracing the "copper kettle" motif. This vision was then brought to life through our deep commitment to Fabrication. We customized numerous objects, including the laser-cut entrance screen which features a pattern derived from the resort's pine cone logo. The bar itself is fully custom; its profile mimics the lines of a copper kettle, with a maple-wrapped base and inlaid, custom-cut 1-inch thick steel brackets that were acid-washed to a copper finish. The most dramatic element is the overhead copper canopy, a double-stacked octagonal form with radiused blades welded to a custom frame that cleverly angles the televisions for optimal viewing.
The Outcome:
The Copper Kettle has been completely reborn. The new open layout and stunning, custom-fabricated bar have created a warm, energetic hub for the resort. The handcrafted copper and steel elements give the space a unique, authentic identity that could only be achieved through a hands-on, design-build process. It has successfully become the perfect year-round spot to get some grub in the Shenandoah Valley, fulfilling its promise as the true heart of the resort.
