The Challenge: 

Our clients were undertaking a major renovation of the outdoor space at their beautiful historic home in Hampden. With a new two-story deck and patio planned, they needed more than just a place to put a grill. They dreamed of a cohesive, multi-functional outdoor living area that could serve as the heart of their home for entertaining and relaxing. The core challenge was to create a dramatic centerpiece that would anchor the new, expansive space and feel both modern and at home against the historic stonework.

The FADE Approach:

Our integrated process was essential to bringing this vision to life. As Architects, we designed a complete outdoor "suite" of elements—a fireplace, grill, and bar—that define distinct rooms on the patio. The defining architectural move was the monumental, double-height fireplace, which rises through the upper deck to create a powerful visual anchor for the entire backyard. Our passion for Fabrication translated this architecture into reality. Beginning with small paper models, we developed a complete 3D digital model from which every piece of steel was laser-cut. This digital-to-physical workflow allowed us to create intricate, custom-perforated panels for the chimney, bar, and grill, which were then finished in a stunning "Fireside Copper" powder coat and military grade matte black heat coating.

The Outcome: 

The result is a complete transformation. The "Puff the Fire breathing Dragon" fireplace now stands as a dramatic, sculptural centerpiece, drawing family and friends together with its warmth and presence. The adjoining custom grill and bar have created a highly functional outdoor kitchen and entertainment hub. Our clients now have a seamless indoor-outdoor experience where modern fabrication and timeless design meet, creating a perfect backdrop for making memories for years to come.
