The Challenge: 

An old friend came to us with a deeply personal and exciting challenge: to design a new home for his young family on a cherished family plot of land along the Shenandoah River in Woodstock, VA. The dream was to create a modern homestead that felt both new and timeless, a place that would honor the beauty of its valley setting and serve as a gathering place for generations to come.

The FADE Approach: 

This project was a true journey of collaboration, beginning with deep site analysis and conversations about how the family wanted to live on the land. As Architects, we developed a design that unfolds across the topography, using a series of interconnected volumes to create a home that is both expansive and intimate. Early explorations through physical and digital models allowed us to refine the home's massing and its relationship to the surrounding landscape, ensuring that key views of the river and mountains were framed perfectly.

The Outcome: 

The result is a home that is currently rising from the ground, a testament to a shared vision and a deep friendship. The Mountain Top Homestead is more than just a house; it is the physical manifestation of a family's dream. It's a place designed for making memories, rooted in the landscape of the Shenandoah Valley, and built to last for generations.
