LINTICULES & LIGHT...Realizing an Artist's Vision
The Challenge:
Artist Theo Pinto came to us with a powerful and poetic vision: to create "WE ARE ALL UNDER ONE SKY," a large-scale lenticular artwork capturing the ephemeral, shifting colors of 3 of his artworks simultaneously. The challenge was purely technical: how to translate this beautiful concept into a precise, permanent, and perfectly illuminated installation within the existing lobby of 141 Willoughby in Brooklyn. Our task was to bridge the gap between artistic intent and built reality.
The FADE Approach:
As the project's Technical Director, our FADE process was focused on providing the architectural and fabrication expertise to ensure a flawless execution. We began by collaborating with the artist to refine the lenticular printing technique itself. From there, our role as
Architect was to design the installation system. We developed a custom wood mount with a magnetic paint finish, allowing each delicate print to be perfectly aligned without visible fasteners. The most critical element was the Education and design of the lighting. We specified a precise linear LED "wall grazing" fixture to wash the 13-foot-tall surface in uniform light, ensuring the lenticular colors would shift dynamically for viewers as they move through the lobby.
The Outcome:
The result is a stunning, immersive work of art that is seamlessly integrated into the architecture of the lobby. Our behind-the-scenes technical direction—from print consulting to the engineered mounting system and precision lighting design—allowed Theo Pinto's artistic vision to be realized exactly as he imagined. The installation now serves as a vibrant and contemplative centerpiece for the building, a constant and beautiful reminder that we are all under one sky.
We provide the technical expertise to realize ambitious creative projects. This installation is an example of how we bridge the gap between artistic vision and architectural reality. If you have a project that requires a similar level of precision and technical direction, let's talk.
