BARN WOOD & BRANDING...Crafting a New Home for a Creative Agency

The Challenge:

The creative agency Drexler came to us with a vision and a challenge: to transform a pair of vacant and dilapidated former florist shops in Baltimore's Lauraville neighborhood into a vibrant, modern headquarters. The goal was to create a space that would not only be a functional office but would also reflect their creative identity—a place that was thoughtfully designed, rich with authentic materials, and uniquely theirs.

The FADE Approach:

Our journey with Drexler was a true collaboration in adaptive reuse. As Architects, we began with a full renovation, carefully reinforcing the old structures to support a new open-plan studio, private offices, and a rooftop deck that engages the streetscape. The soul of the project comes from our deep belief in Fabrication and the power of reclaimed materials. We sourced historic timbers from a dismantled apple cider mill in Virginia, which were then used for the flooring and the stunning, hand-cut stair treads that anchor the main studio This hands-on approach continued with a custom kitchenette featuring a concrete sink that our firm designed.

The Outcome:

The result is a complete transformation from disarray to a dynamic, bespoke creative space. The reclaimed wood floors and stairs bring a palpable sense of history and warmth to the modern, open studio. Custom fabricated elements, from the concrete sink to the laser-cut steel awning by a local artisan, give the space a unique character that is a perfect reflection of the Drexler brand. The final headquarters is a testament to a process that honors history, celebrates craft, and creates a truly inspiring place to work.
