Engineering an Artist's Vision in Metal and Light

The Spark: 

The journey of "Aurora" began with the vibrant, energetic vision of artist Tony Shore. He imagined a massive, painterly artwork that would float on the side of a brick building, capturing the dynamic energy of the community nightlife. Our challenge, and our privilege, was to provide the technical and fabrication expertise to translate his powerful vision into a durable, large-scale piece of public art.

From Digital to Dust: 

Our process began by deconstructing the artwork into a buildable system. As the project's Technical Director, we designed a lightweight but rigid armature of custom aluminum panels to serve as the canvas for the piece. Every panel, custom mounting bracket, and connection point was meticulously detailed in a full set of shop drawings, creating a precise roadmap for the Fabrication and installation process. In the workshop, these plans were transformed into physical components, ready for the artist's touch.

The Human Touch: 

This project was a true dialogue between the artist's hand and the fabricator's Majer Metal Works craft. While Tony brought the brilliant color and life to the surface of the panels in his studio, we worked behind the scenes, engineering the system that would allow the final piece to be safely installed and appear to float effortlessly off the brick facade.

The Lasting Impression:

Now installed, "Aurora" is a stunning burst of color and energy against the Baltimore sky. The collaboration between artist and architect is invisible, resulting in a final piece that feels both powerful and weightless. It's a testament to our FADE philosophy, where our expertise in Architecture and Fabrication can provide the crucial backbone that allows a powerful artistic vision to take flight.
